I am glad to be at #edu17 this week doing a poster today on @iulibraries#Imago specimen repository. That is today at 12:45 in Exhibit Hall A-C Level 200 in the Philadelphia Convention Center. See poster. See below where I am putting up my poster. Thanks to Kent from@ucmerced for the assist.
This morning I got to hear Michio Kaku the futurist. He had some interesting things to say about the 4th Wave of Technology. I want to be a full time futurist too.
The Office of Scholarly Publishing, along with the Scholarly Communication Department and the Teaching and Learning Department, will feature several events during the week aimed at faculty, postdocs, graduate and undergraduate students.
This week I am in DC for the APTrust Member Meeting. We are being hosted by the Georgetown University Libraries in Lauinger Library. A great view of the potamac from our window. Lots of discussion and lots of talk about scaling services over time and possible new partnerships. Great discussions.
Many of you may have seen my latest posts about WSSSPE4 to be held Sept 12-14, 2016 at the University of Manchester. I am very excited to be involved in WSSSPE4 and encourage everyone to get their short (2pgs) or long (8pgs) papers in by the deadline of July 10, 2016.
Today I am at the ALA Annual Conference in Orlando. I am at a library services platform panel hosted by @mbreeding. At this panel most of the major library services platform vendors discussed the state of the market. There was actually a pretty good analysis of the consolidation happening in the market by Jim Tallman at III. Most talked a good game about system and service interoperability but I am intrigued by the new open player Folio_LSP.
Sebastien Hammer below discussed the launch of Folio_LSP.
Having a good time this week at the Designing for Digital Conference. This great UX conference is part of the now famous ER&L Conference held annually in Austin. This year’s keynote was from Jesse James Garrett of Adaptive Path fame. He spoke a bit about UX themes but I found his comment about the following really hit home “…when the product does not resonate with people, they then hold themselves to blame.” See his slide for that below…
This week I am in Chicago, IL for the HathiTrust Annual Members Meeting as well as some side meetings for the HT Program Steering Committee and the HT Board. We will be talking about the latest accomplishments of the HathiTrust Research Center as well as work that we have done in the Scholar’s Commons and Scholarly Commons at Indiana University and the University of Illinois Libraries. We are meeting in the Big 10 Center in Rosemont which is a great place for a meeting.
See below my action shot of @mikefurlough Executive Director of the HathiTrust.
