ACRL 2015 – Lessig Keynote

The closing keynote at this year’s ACRL Conference is my hero Lawrence Lessig. I really took alot away from his talk, namely that of government and the ways in which it is corrupted by different types of influences. He mentioned his grassroots group rootstrikers – and talked a bit about how his book Code and Other Laws of Cyberspace has been proven correct so far in how privacy intersects with online community.

ACRL 2015 TechTalk on VIVO

So this year I got accepted for a TechTalk at the 2015 ACRL Conference. I was honored to present with Nicole Vasilevsky from the Oregon Health Sciences University. On a personal note I got a new iphone 6 plus while in Portland (Tax Free) that is unlocked and works on all world cell networks. The slide from our talk are shown below:

PASIG 2015

As you can see from this picture – David Minor aka Pemulis kicks off this year’s PASIG Meeting in San Diego. We were hosted by the UCSD Libraries, my old home, and SDSC, another of my old SD haunts. It was great to see the new SDSC facility as well as being able to catch up with old friends and meet new ones as well. I gave a talk on storage components of the HathiTrust Research Center. My slides are shown here –

. Inna Kouper from the IU Data to Insight Center gave a talk about our NSF funded SEAD Project.

Designing For Digital 2015

So last week I got to attend a new event sponsored by ER&L called Designing for Digital (see Twitter Design4Lib). This conference had some great library as well as external perspectives on user experience design. The keynotes were great and had very broad experience in this area (see opening keynote @jkolko below who is VP of Product, Innovation, and Design at Blackboard).
